The Tamilnadu Differently Abled Federation Charitable Trust plays a vital Advocacy role in creating awareness and formulating to alleviate the problem faced by the disabled and also in the implementation. Our trust is involved in the policy making, formulation and implementation of schemes related to differently Abled people. The President of the trust is the member in the following boards.

  • Advisory Board Member formulated under the Rights of Persons with Disability Act 2016.
  • Member of Tamil Nadu Differently Abled Welfare Board member
  • Member of Railway Divisional Railways Consultative Committee (DRCC) Member
  • Member of the Expert Panel in the Censor Board
  • Member of Tamil Nadu Transport Committee member

Below are significant contributions and achievements made through advocacy with the Government.

  • We have achieved 75% concession in the buses for the Differently abled people and with their escort
  • The tuition fees and special fees in the government and the aided institutions are waived off for disabled students with our intervention.
  • In 2007, we had to combat with the government and ensured that the differently abled coach is not removed from the trains which was removed then. We met the then UPA Leader Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and with her support we met the Hon’ble Minister for Indian Railways and restored special coach.
  • The Differently abled people were exempted from paying the 5% marginal money while the Government paid the same as subsidy.
  • Based on our suggestion the Government issued a GO and and enabled setting up hostels for the Differently abled men and women at major cities in Tamil Nadu
  • We have initiated the concept of Battery car in the Chennai Central and Egmore Railway stations for the transportation of the differently abled people and this has been supported by various donors like the Vodafone, Airtel etc.
  • We have lobbied successfully for carrying Wheel chairs in the Bus free of cost while earlier the government has charged a luggage fee for the same.
  • Later all the vehicles used by the differently abled people including three wheeler motor bikes are been made to transport free of cost in the trains.
